Dignity Health, which operates the local Mercy hospitals, Methodist Hospital of Sacramento, Woodland Healthcare and Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in the Sacramento region and St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton and Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital in San Andreas, announced a new president at Mercy Hospital of Folsom.

Michael Ricks brings 16 years of professional healthcare experience in acute-care hospital leadership; facility operations; strategic planning and execution; business development; and physician recruitment.

In his new role, Ricks, 42, will provide strategic and operational leadership at Mercy Hospital of Folsom while continuously enhancing the expansion, diversification and delivery of top quality healthcare. He will plan and implement new business strategies and reinforce a culture of clinical excellence, accountability and mission-driven objectives.

Ricks comes to Mercy Folsom from St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton, where he has served as chief operating officer since 2008. At St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Ricks led the day to day operations of the 359-bed hospital and oversaw the final stages of construction and transition to a new $115 million patient pavilion, implementation of an electronic medical record system, and double digit growth in the emergency department. Prior to his time at St. Joseph’s, Ricks served as vice president of operations and business development at Enloe Medical Center in Chico for two years, where he developed and implemented strategic plans for cardiovascular, cancer, stroke, bariatric and rehabilitation services.

He also served as administrative director at Sentara Southside Hospitals in Norfolk, Virginia, for eight years.

Ricks holds a Master of Health Administration from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
