With football season three weeks away, Saturday is an opportunity to come out and meet your Oak Ridge Trojans. The team’s first Meet the Trojans event will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at the amphitheater in front of Bistro 33 in El Dorado Hills Town Center. “It’s a fun way to kick off the year and generate some excitement for the season,” Oak Ridge coach Eric Cavaliere said. “With our first three games on the road, it will be hard to get things going at school. It will be neat for the kids to have their name introduced and hopefully it will create some energy and get the kids inspired to work harder in anticipation for the season.” The Meet the Trojans event is the brainchild of team parent Wende Tostenson and Anthony Scotch. “We’re excited about it,” Tostenson said. “We wanted to get the community involved. We want to introduce the kids and let the community know that Friday night football games at Oak Ridge can be a lot of fun.” A lot is planned for the event, including a raffle of, among other things, an Austin Collie jersey. Collie is a 2004 graduate of Oak Ridge now playing for the Indianapolis Colts. The players will be introduced and Cavaliere will talk about the players as well as the team as a whole and the prospects of playing in a new league this season, the Delta River League, along with Folsom, Ponderosa, Sheldon, Jesuit and Pleasant Grove. A team poster signing will be held at Yogaberry and a taco eating contest will commence at Sir Vesa’s after the event.
