The second annual Meet the Trojans event is slated for Saturday. The Oak Ridge High varsity football team will be introduced to the community at the event beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday next to the pond in Town Center. “It will be a lot like last year’s event,” Oak Ridge football coach Eric Cavaliere said. “It’s just an opportunity for the community to come meet the players and learn a little bit about the team before the season starts. There will also be vendors there and an opportunity to purchase Trojan gear. It’s just an event that we use to kick off the season. It’s fun for the kids.” Last year’s event also featured the Oak Ridge cheerleaders, who got the crowd fired up before the players were introduced and Cavaliere then spoke about the team and the upcoming season. “We’re absolutely excited for the season,” Cavaliere said. “It’s nice to have a couple weeks off right now, sort of the calm before the storm, but we’re really looking forward to the season. We’re excited about this group of kids. They’re a really coachable group and they’re fun to be around. It’s been a fun summer.” The Trojans won seven games a year ago and were eliminated with a loss in the first round of the playoffs. The team finished with a 7-4 record.
