Evan McCormick couldn’t have had a better swim meet than he had on March 2. McCormick, a 10-year-old fourth grader at Lakeview Elementary School in El Dorado Hills, competed in seven events at the Sierra Nevada Annual Short Course Junior Olympic swim meet at the Folsom Aquatic Center and won all seven, earning the overall high-point winner in the 9-10-year-old age group. If that wasn’t enough, McCormick set meet records in all seven events and is ranked in the top-60 nationally in all seven events in his age group, according to usaswimming.org. McCormick’s top performance came in the 50-yard breast stroke, which he won in 35.33 seconds, the 24th-best time in the nation. McCormick also set meet records in the 100 backstroke (1:08.82), 100 breast stroke (1:18.54), 50 breast stroke (35.33), 100 individual medley (1:08.90), 200 individual medley (2:26.27), 50 backstroke (31.78) and 100 freestyle (59.29). McCormick is ranked in the top-60 nationally in the 9-10-year-old age group in the 50-yard breast stroke, 100 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 100 individual medley, 50 backstroke, 100 breast stroke and 100 backstroke. McCormick will compete in the 2012 Far Western Championship Meet in Morgan Hill later this month.
