Little League District 54 conducted a blind draw Sunday night to determine positions in the final round of its all-star tournaments. With the pool play round now complete and half of the teams eliminated from contention, the remaining six in each division will now vie for the tourney titles in double-elimination brackets. Maidu Major division manager Greg Zanolli spoke before the draw about the benefits of the two opening round byes in each bracket as those teams will watch the other four duke it out, and then face one of the winners. That second game will have the bye team sitting at full strength in terms of pitching availability, while its opponent will have already burned pitching just 24 or 48 hours earlier. After the deck was shuffled, Zanolli got his wish as his Maidu team picked up a first-round bye in that tournament. Maidu will play its first bracket game at 5:30 p.m Tuesday night at Feist Park against the winner of Monday's 5:30 p.m. game between Lakeside and Ponderosa. The second opening night game features Roseville West against Folsom American at 5:30 p.m. Monday. The winner of that one draws El Dorado Hills South Tuesday evening. The 9/10-year-old tournament at Maidu Park also resumes Monday. Ponderosa will meet El Dorado Hills North in the 5 p.m. contest, with the winner moving on to face Woodcreek, which drew a pass through the first round, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night. Gold Rush and Folsom American meet in the 9/10 7:30 p.m. game Monday, with that winner facing Lakeside at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The 11-year-old tournament takes Monday off before featuring a pool play rematch in one of Tuesday's opening games. Roseville West and Lakeside will do battle in the Tuesday 7:30 p.m. game. The winner gets Folsom National at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The other 11-year-old first round game pits Woodcreek against El Dorado Hills South at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The winner will move on to face Maidu at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The junior tournament resumes Monday night with Lakeside facing Roseville West at 5 p.m. at Lembi Park to open the double-elimination phase. The winner will see El Dorado Hills North at 8 p.m. Wednesday night. In the other half of the Junior draw, Gold Rush will take another crack at the Woodcreek squad that beat it 7-0 during pool play. That game will be played at 8 p.m. Monday with the winner moving on to face Folsom American at 5 p.m. Wednesday. There was no pool play in the five-team senior tournament, which finally gets underway Tuesday night at Lembi Park. The 5 p.m. game features Maidu against Folsom American while the 8 p.m. game pits Woodcreek against Folsom National. Roseville West has a bye, as it awaits the winner of the Maidu vs. Folsom American game. Roseville West will take on that winner at 8 p.m. Thursday night. All of these tournaments are double elimination so the losers of the first games will also be back later in the week.
