A young but solid Oak Ridge girls’ tennis team wrapped up their preseason schedule with a 5-4 win over Del Oro on Thursday. In a match that had featured playoff intensity, according to Trojan coach Ralph Clark, Oak Ridge picked up singles wins from Victoria Waugh (2-1, ret.) at No. 3, Julia Dunnigan (6-3, 6-1) at No. 5 and Kaitlin Corell (6-4, 6-3) at No. 6. In doubles, Morgan Dial and Rachael Librach won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3, but it was the 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 three-set win at No. 1 doubles by Lauren Roppolo and Alexis Hill that secured the victory. “Lauren and Alexis are getting back the form that led them to a league championship last year,” Clark said. Oak Ridge picked up preseason wins over Bella Vista (twice) and Rio Americano, Rocklin and Del Oro. Tori Trylovich leads the team at No. 1 singles, while senior co-captains Katrina Lund and Victoria Waugh hold down spots at No. 2 and 3 singles, respectively. Junior Julia Lund is at No. 4, while Dunnigan and Corell round out the singles players. Gabby Zeagler and Tia Nguyen make up the team’s No. 2 doubles team. Haesoo Kim, Sydney Newman, Camille Martin, Sophie Geyer, Emily Abraham, Megan Engle, Megan Eaves, Emily Beasy and Jade Atkinson round out the team. Oak Ridge opened league play at St. Francis on Monday. The team’s next challenge is today at Folsom High. The match begins at 3:45 p.m.
