Lady Trojans pull upset in first round of Nor-Cal playoffs

Defeat second-seeded Carondelet 45-41 with big second half

Oak Ridge High's varsity girls basketball team upset second-seeded Carondelet Tuesday night, 45-41, to advance to the second-round of the Northern California playoffs. The Lady Trojans (27-5) travel to San Jose on Thursday to play perennial power Mitty (19-11), who is the tournament's sixth seed, just in front of seventh-seeded Oak Ridge. The Lady Trojans trailed Carondelet 28-17 at halftime, but held them to only 13 points in the second half, while scoring 28 of their own to pull the upset. Sara James led the team with 19 points, while Kristina Williams scored eight, Morgan McCormick added seven and Jillian Spink chipped in six points. In the other side of the bracket, top-seeded St. Francis advanced and will face fourth-seeded Wilcox. The semifinals feature a pair of teams from the Sac-Joaquin Section and two from the Central Coast Section. The winners on Thursday meet at Arco Arena at 2 p.m. on Saturday for the Northern California championship.
