Lady Trojans need strong finishBy: Matt LongTelegraph Sports Editor
Oak Ridge has a challenging finish to its regular season.
After playing Ponderosa on Monday, the team plays host to Pleasant Grove today before traveling to St. Francis on Monday. Oak Ridge coach Becky Potter said the team needed to beat Ponderosa on Monday and defeat Pleasant Grove today to secure a playoff spot.
The Lady Trojans (6-1 in league, 9-14 overall) are coming off a decent stretch of play, having beaten Folsom in five games on Oct. 15 and then sweeping Sheldon on Oct. 17. Over the weekend the team played well despite winning only one of four matches at a tournament in Stockton.
“We had a huge team talk last week about what we have to do to get better and despite only winning one match over the weekend, I thought the girls listened and applied a lot of the things we had been working on,” Potter said. “I think we made progress, even if it didn’t result in wins.”
For the second straight time, the Folsom and Oak Ridge volleyball teams needed five games to decide the outcome of their second Delta River League meeting. And for the second straight time, it was the Lady Trojans who emerged victorious at home after the match was over. Oak Ridge won the first two games 25-16 and 25-12 before Folsom returned the favor 25-11 and 25-22. The Lady Trojans, however, pulled out the fifth game, 15-10.
