Kyle Porter, pitches, hits Oak Ridge to 7-2 win over Union Mine
By: Staff Report
Kyle Porter allowed two runs on two hits and struck out seven and also hit a three-run home run that helped push Oak Ridge to a big win over Union Mine on Monday. The Diamondbacks scored both of their runs in the first inning and led 2-1, but Porter settled down, retiring the last 17 batters he faced. It was his third straight complete game. Oak Ridge tied the game at two in the third inning on some heads up base running by Jake Schu and took the lead for good in the fourth, scoring four runs. Kevin Stockam and Jeff McKenzie hit consecutive doubles to put Oak Ridge up 3-2 and after a John Gallagher single, Porter homered to secure the win, especially with the way he was pitching. McKenzie and Gallagher both had two hits to lead the offensive effort. “We seem to be playing some good baseball right now,” Oak Ridge coach Todd Melton said. “I like that we are showing steady improvement in just about every area of the game.” Oak Ridge plays host to the Diamondbacks today and Ponderosa on Friday. Both games begin at 4:15 p.m.
