Keaton Subjeck, Ethan Staley win wrestling tourney

Keaton Subjeck and Ethan Staley won their weight classes at the El Dorado County Junior High Wrestling Tournament on Saturday. Subjeck won the tournament for the third time, placing first in the 122-pound weight division. Subjeck won the championship match convincingly, 6-0, with three takedowns. Staley, a first-year member of the El Dorado Hills Wrestling Club, won the 76-pound weight class, coming back from a 4-0 deficit in the third period to win the championship match, 5-4. Joshua Ferry (116), Luke McLean (135) and Derek Henslee (142) all placed second in their weight classes, while Ian Coates (142) placed third and Zack Claiborne (122) and Taylor Beck (128) finished fourth. Also competing but not placing were first-year club members Jake Plaskon, Christian Mercik and Michael Williams. Those wrestlers who placed will now advance to the Five Counties Regional Tournament. Claiborne and Beck also competed at the Mother Lode Tournament on Sunday with Claiborne taking second and Beck finishing third. Both wrestlers qualified for the Tournament of Champions.
