More than 1,000 girls took to the course at the Stanford Invitational cross country meet Saturday in Palo Alto, participating in six different divisional races. With the temperatures soaring above 100 degrees, and the top runners from around the state in attendance, it was a huge test for local harriers. When all of the results were in, Granite Bay’s Brooke Holt, running in the seeded race, was the No. 6 finisher overall. Holt, a junior, covered the 5K course in 18:12 to finish in fourth position in the highly competitive seeded division. The meet was broken into Division 1-5, but also used a higher-level seeded division to get top runners from different division going head-to-head on the course. The final results show the top runners in each of the six girls and six boys races, and also provided a combined result portraying the best times of the day. Oakmont’s Karlie Garcia continued to impress as well. The freshman posted a time of 18:29 running in the Division 2 competition. That result was good enough for second place in D2 and was the 12th-best time in the combined results. In the seeded Division 1 team races, the Oak Ridge boys finished in third place, and the Oak Ridge girls finished in 16th, one position behind Granite Bay. The Trojan boys were led by Nathan Williams (11th) and Amjed Aboukhadijeh (13th) while the girls were headed by Hayley Scott’s 15th-place result. Scott was 26th in the combined results, and Placer’s Shannon Harcus, who finished sixth in Division 3, was 30th overall. The Woodcreek girls team raced to a ninth-place finish in the final team standings for the seeded division. The Timberwolves were led by a 21st-place run from senior Courtney Crosta. Nicole Kruslic was Woodcreek’s No. 2 runner for the day, followed by Sami Gomez, Stephanie Romo and Jennifer Romo. Crosta finished 21st in the seeded race and 38th overall in the combined results. Granite Bay’s girls team was 15th in the team standings for the seeded race, with Christine Zavesky delivering a strong No. 2 to Holt with a 12th-place finish in the seeded race and a No. 23 overall position. In the boys competition, Woodcreek’s Tyler Raposa was seventh in the Division 2 race, which left him with the 68th-best overall time (out of 1,218 runners) in the combined standings. Bear River junior Breanne Mitchell crossed second in the Division 4 girls race.
