For those looking to welcome 2009, there are plenty of options in the Folsom and El Dorado Hills area. The Purple Place, 363 Green Valley Road in El Dorado Hills, will offer dancing and a DJ. “We’ll have a bunch of noisemakers and hats for everyone,” said co-owner Mike Hountalas. “New Year’s is usually pretty good here. We’re a casual location and it’s an easy buy in. You can come in, have a drink or two, and do some dancing.” The DJ starts at 9 p.m. and $10 will get you in the door. Hountalas said they will also have some specials on the menu that regulars don’t usually find at the bar and eatery. He believes the easy-on-the-wallet price will be a draw. “I think this year, with the economy the way it is, the big dinner-included venues will have a difficult time,” he said. To help keep his customers safe, The Purple Place partners with Zero Limitations, a limousine service, to get folks home. “For a party of four, it’s $15 in Folsom and El Dorado Hills,” he said. “Outside of that, it’s a dollar per mile.” Bill Ramsey, general manager of Wine Konnection in El Dorado Hills, is hoping vino will pair nicely with appetizers and a four-course dinner. For $250, couples can partake of an appetizer buffet while listening to the live music. Later, they will be served a four-course meal and when they are ready to call it a night, they won’t need to travel far – accommodations at the Holiday Inn Express are included. The hotel is located in the same parking lot in the Town Center. The next morning, New Year’s revelers will be treated to a mimosa breakfast back at Wine Konnection. “This is unique in El Dorado County,” Ramsey said. “If this is successful, we hope to continue this as a new tradition.” For information on Wine Konnection and the hotel, call 941-1555. The newly opened Red Hawk Casino in Shingle Springs expects plenty of revelers on New Year’s Eve. Casino officials advise diners to make reservations at any of their restaurants. According to Joshua Taustein, casino spokesman, Gwen and Steve will be performing from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Clean Slate will be performing from 8 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. at the casino. “Special guest stars will be making appearances throughout the night including Garrat Wilkin as Jimmy Buffett, Johnny Baron as Elvis, and Briefcase Full of Blues – A Salute to the Blues Brothers,” Taustein said. “Variety acts will also appear throughout the day including stiltwalkers, magicians, jugglers and mimes.” Red Hawk Rewards Club members will be eligible to win one of five cash drawings worth $2,009 each, he said.
