30-year-old suspected of killing man last month
Authorities have a suspect in custody for the murder of a Georgetown resident whose body was found in June. Last month Colby Jee Reed’s body was found in a vehicle parked on Bald Mountain Road off Wentworth Springs Road. On Friday, Zachary Neil Newman, 30, of Georgetown was formally charged with Reed’s death, according to a news release from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office. While the incident has been ruled a homicide, officials from the El Dorado Sheriff’s Office are still withholding the cause of death pending further investigation. Two days after Reed’s body was discovered, state parole officials arrested Newman for violating his parole terms in an unrelated matter. After an “extensive” investigation by El Dorado County Sheriff’s detectives, authorities filed murder charges against Newman Friday.
