With full lineup, Oak Ridge tennis team too much for Pleasant GroveBy: Staff Report
After two close battles with Pleasant Grove, Oak Ridge High’s tennis team dominated the Eagles Monday, winning 8-1 in a match to decide the Delta River League’s second-place team.
Oak Ridge won the first four singles matches with relative ease with Brandon Sutter leading the way at No. 1 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Christian Doty. Jimmy Giovannini was equally consistent with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 over Jason Kankis.
Jacob Zetlin and Charlie Conarro found themselves in competitive matches at No. 3 and 4, as they won by similar scores. Zetlin earned a 6-4, 6-3 win, while Conarro won his match 6-2, 6-3.
Simon Chan and Matthew Lai won extremely competitive matches at five and six singles, respectively. Chan won 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), while Lai came out on top, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
In doubles play, Clarence Lai and Scotty Lee earned a 6-2, 6-3 win, while Haydon Jacobson and Sam Miller were victorious 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
Max He and Sangsoo Kim nearly came away with a win at No. 3 doubles, but lost 6-0, 6-7 (7-5), 10-7.
