Taylor Ellerman, Hugh Ellerman, Keaton Subjeck and Vince Waldhauser finished unbeaten at the De La Salle Varsity Wrestling Showcase on Thursday. The Oak Ridge wrestlers were standout performers as the team dropped all three dual matches, losing to Chico, 56-18, Red Bluff and De La Salle, 44-22. Brandon Buriani earned a 1-0 win over Chico’s Efren Rodriguez at 130 pounds, while Subjeck (152) and Waldhauser (171) picked up pins. Taylor Ellerman also won by decision at 140 pounds. Against Red Bluff, Subjeck and Waldhauser again picked up pins, while Buriani and Ellerman won by decisions. Waldhauser pinned Curtis Seigfried of De La Salle, while Taylor Ellerman, Hugh Ellerman and Subjeck earned decisions. Buriani wrestled well, but dropped a one-point decision in overtime to Joey Moita, a state placer from a year ago. The Trojans open league play today at home against Folsom in what should be an entertaining match. The Bulldogs visit Oak Ridge with a 20-match Delta River League winning streak and have won four straight league titles. The squad will then compete in the Doc Buchanan Invitational at Clovis High on Saturday.
