Foothill Girls Softball League All-Stars are Nor-Cal champions

The 16-and-under Foothill Girls Softball League All-Star team lifted the Nor Cal Championship trophy Monday night by defeating Sunrise twice in the championship round. The Foothill girls won seven of eight games throughout the three-day tournament. The team’s only defeat was to Sunrise early in the tournament. In the championship round, Foothill handed Sunrise their first loss by a score of 5-3. Sunrise jumped up to an early 2-0 lead, but Foothill countered with three runs in the second inning. Courtney Jenkins led off the inning with a double. Rachel Tarrant walked and Tiana Neff’s fielder’s choice ground ball scored Jenkins. Both Tarrant and Neff then scored on an infield grounder by Nicole Martin. In the third inning Foothill added another run when Cambria Cunningham singled and later scored on a single by Jenkins. In the fourth the team tacked on one more when Neff led off the inning with a walk and later scored on a single by Ana Campos. Alexis Anglin gave a strong pitching performance by only allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out four. In the final game Foothill scored eight runs after spotting Sunrise two early runs on three errors. Campos and Tarrant led Foothill offensively with two hits each. Everyone contributed offensively in the 8-4 win. Anglin once again earned the win. Foothill outscored their opponents 80-37 in the eight games. In Saturday’s competition Foothill handily defeated Pocket and Antelope/North Highlands, while losing to Sunrise. They continued their winning ways Sunday by defeating 5-Cities, Elk Grove and finally Woodland to get the championship. Maddie Campos, Jordan Falgoust, Courtney Hauck, Imari Hays, Myka Menard, Taylor Van Cleave and Caroline Yovanovich complete the roster. Kristin Martin managed the team, while Joe Campos is the head coach with Joe Ponik and Mike Martin assisting. The Foothill Girls Softball League is home to more than 400 girls, who play softball and live in and around the El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park and Shingle Springs area.
