Folsom Walmart expands, adds 85 jobs
Walmart’s expansion is finally complete and as of Oct. 26, shoppers were able to experience the full store.
The 163,000-square-foot store also added 85 jobs, employing a total of 300 people. The store’s hours were also expanded to 24 hours, seven days per week.
Community and business leaders joined Walmart associates early Friday, Oct. 26, for a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony. Members of the Sutter and Folsom middle school choir and bands performed.
Store Manager Keith Johnson has overseen the project.
“We are proud to be expanding during the year that Walmart celebrates the 50th anniversary of its first store opening,” said Johnson. “We look forward to serving the people of our community, helping save them money so they can live better.”
Local business leaders praised Walmart’s expansion.
“Like many other businesses, Walmart is growing and investing in Folsom,” said Folsom Chamber President and CEO Joe Gagliardi. “They believe in giving back to the communities they serve and this is evident by their partnership with the Folsom Pro Rodeo and other civic organizations.”
The Folsom Walmart store was awarded the Chamber’s 2011 Business Partner of the Year.
Part of Folsom Walmart’s expansion was the addition of a full line of groceries, giving shoppers a “one-stop” store.
The grocery area includes a wide selection of fresh produce, including a variety of organic products. Other features include a full bakery, meat and dairy products, dry goods and staples, beverages, a deli, frozen foods, canned and packaged goods, baking items and household supplies. For added convenience, the store will also offer a Walmart Connect Center and a one-hour digital-photo processing lab.
The pharmacy will offer a full range of products and services to support the health and wellness of customers and their families. The pharmacy team can answer questions and offer health and wellness solutions. They can also assist customers who wish to transfer their prescriptions to Walmart. The pharmacy is conveniently located at the front of the store next to the Walmart.com services department.
This store features many energy-saving elements, part of Walmart’s overall efforts to reduce the total amount of energy used in stores and other operations. These features include LED lights in signage, freezer cases and the parking lot. This technology uses about 50 percent less energy than traditional lighting.
The expanded Folsom Walmart employs approximately 300 associates, including 85 new positions created by the expansion, according to Johnson. The average wage at Walmart for full-time hourly associates in California is approximately $12.82 per hour. Eligible full-time and part-time associates at Walmart are able to take advantage of many employment benefits, including a wide variety of health care plans, 401(k) participation, discounts, membership at Sam’s Club and the opportunity to purchase stock. Nearly 75 percent of the company’s managers began their Walmart careers as hourly associates.
The store is located at 1018 Riley St., Folsom.
