Four women and two men represented Folsom Lake College in the NorCal Community College Tennis Championships last week in Fresno. Sophomore Nik Tummala won his first round match against a Mission College opponent, 6-2, 7-6. He then played the No. 4 seed in the tournament from DeAnza College and lost 6-3, 6-3. Later Tummala and freshman Nick Lord lost a hard fought doubles match 4-6, 6-3, 3-6. On the women’s side, sophomore Lily Wong won her first round match (which took over 2-1/2 hours), 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Ultimately, the fatigue of the marathon first round and the heat were too much for Wong to overcome as she had little time to recover before her second-round match, and she was forced to default due to severe cramps. Wong eventually recovered enough to pair with freshman Kristina Bodeman and win their first-round doubles against a Fresno team, 6-1, 6-3. From there they lost to the third-seeded team from Chabot College, 6-0, 6-1. The Falcons’ No. 2 doubles team of freshman Jordyn Germoles and sophomore Skye Murray lost their first round to a tough Foothill College duo, 6-0, 6-0. Three of the six Folsom Lake qualifiers to NorCals are freshmen and should be back to represent the school next year.
