By Eileen Wilson Folsom Lake Entertainer Folsom restaurants are banning together for the first inaugural Folsom Lake Restaurant Week which takes place Sept. 7 through 15. Folsom Lake Restaurant Week, brainchild of KT Flynn of Gold Country Media, is based on a phenomenon that is sweeping the nation - community restaurants working together to create special menus at very special, affordable prices. “This event is modeled after similar programs across the country. The popular event will offer everyone the opportunity to explore Folsom area’s culinary offerings,” Flynn said. “This nine-day event will provide diners with an opportunity to taste some of the finest local cuisine, and the event beneficiary is the Twin Lakes Food Bank.” Restaurant owners are excited at the opportunity to show off what they do. Mark and Karoline Platt, owners of Land Ocean in Folsom and Sienna in El Dorado Hills, couldn’t be more pleased to be part of the event. “This is a great opportunity to really show off our restaurants, and give people a great value as their summer is over and kids are heading back to school,” Mark said. “People are getting back to their routine this time of year, so it’s a great time to get them thinking about having dinner out.” The Platts expect to see between 500 and 1,000 new customers visit their two restaurants during Restaurant Week. “The three-course meal will be $29, and it will include an appetizer, main course, and a dessert,” Mark said. Imagine Land Ocean’s Beef Wellington, luscious beef tenderloin baked in the lightest of puff pastries – a melt-in-your mouth culinary adventure, he said. The Wellington could also be paired with a shrimp cocktail, and a lemon cheesecake or a homemade hot apple pie for dessert. Mark said that the menu will offer three options in each category. Sienna, a restaurant known for its Old World, elegant atmosphere and wine selection, is readying itself for Folsom Lake Restaurant Week with menu items like mushroom bruschetta, coconut shrimp, and a plethora of steak, seafood and poultry dishes. For dessert, the menu will include Key Lime pie, and pot de crème, which is a blend of chocolate mousse and coffee. And no restaurant week would be complete without a complement of beverages. Mark said Land Ocean will offer a variety of options, including a Jalapeno Martini and a pomegranate martini called the Special K. Wine options will include the Carmel Road Pinot Noir, Cougar Hill Zinfandel and Orogeny Chardonnay. He said Sienna’s specialty drink menu will include a cucumber martini and a watermelon basil martini. Mark describes the event as, “a great thing to do in this economy.” “Restaurant week will give people a nudge to get out there and enjoy dinner, at a great value,” he said. Flynn said that it’s easy to participate. “Simply search the participating restaurants online and head to your favorite,” she said. There are no tickets required, Flynn said. Restaurants will include regular menus during the week, as well as fixed price menus. The event is sponsored by the Folsom Telegraph in partnership with Folsom’s Chamber of Commerce and Gold Country Media. Additional restaurants include favorites like Bidwell Street Bistro, Back Wine Bar, Visconti’s, Thai Paradise, Taiko Sushi, India House, Chops, Scott’s Seafood, Sutter Street Steakhouse, Pete’s Restaurant, El Pueblo and more.
