Five Oak Ridge track and field athletes bring home gold medals

Five Oak Ridge athletes came home from the Bella Vista Bronco Invitational on Saturday with gold medals. Will Findlay and Jessica Emde made Oak Ridge king of the high jump, as both won the event with leaps of 6 feet, 6 inches and 5’2”, respectively. Shannon Trumbull won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.35 and helped the varsity girls win the meet with 84 points. The varsity boys finished tied for third, while the freshman-sophomore boys placed second. Dusty Armstrong and Evan Baxter won gold medals at the freshman-sophomore level. Armstrong won the 1,600 in 4:36.27, while Baxter claimed the 800 in 2:10.74. “It was a great day,” Oak Ridge coach Rob Fairley said. “This meet will be remembered as a personal-record meet as many athletes set personal records in their events. The athletes who competed in the 4-x- 400-meter relays at the end of the meet put in great efforts. Many of these athletes had already competed in two or three events.” The varsity girls had several top-three finishes, including Trumbell’s second-place finish in the 300 meters in 48.8. Samantha Ralstin, Maxine Goyette and Jackie Mansoor all placed second in the 400 (1:00.10), 1,600 (5:13.93) and 3,200 (11:36.99), respectively. Goyette also placed third in the 800 in 2:24.89, while Mansoor place third in the 1,600 in 5:16.83. The varsity girls’ also placed second in the 4x100 (Cami Crawford, Trumbull, Lexi Davenport, Emde, 51.30) and 4x400 (Brittany Adams, Crawford, Goyette, Taylor Ashby, 4:15.97). The varsity boys’ 4x100-meter relay team of Nick Barnett, Will Tostenson, Will Tucker and Dustin Fretwell placed second in 43.64. Matt Redden also finished third in the high jump at 6’4”. At the freshman-sophomore level, Zach Thornton placed second in the 1,600 in 4:41.56, while Nick Emanuel was third in the 110 hurdles in 16.98. Greg Smolarski also placed third in the pole vault at 8’0”. Members of the 4x400-meter relay teams included varsity boys’ Shay Mueller, Zach Youngberg, James Dutta and Alex FaGalde; varsity girls’ Brittany Adams, Cami Crawford, Maxine Goyette, Taylor Ashby and freshman-sophomore boys’ Carter Howard, Alton Toh, Matt Monet and Bryce Williams. Oak Ridge will have sixteen athletes competing at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The next league meet is April 13 at Ponderosa High School against the Bruins, Jesuit and St. Francis.
