An apparent family dispute has lead to the death of a Placerville man and the arrest of his step son. El Dorado County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home in the 3000 block of Deer Canyon Rd. in Placerville for a reported shooting. Upon arrival they found John G. Malie Jr, 69, on the floor inside with a gunshot wound to his head, according to Lt. Bryan Golmitz. Malie was injured but still alive. He was transported to Marshall Hospital for treatment but eventually died as a result of his injuries. “Deputies began searching for the suspect on the property, which had multiple trailers and outbuildings,” according to a press release issued by Golmitz. “The reporting party had told deputies that the suspect had possibly shot himself.” While searching a trailer the suspect reportedly walked up to deputies and surrendered. The suspect, whose name was not released as of Sunday evening, had an injury to his head and was transported to Marshall Hospital for treatment. The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim and suspect live together on the property and the two have had and ongoing disagreement which reportedly led to the shooting. The suspect has been identified only as the step son of the victim.
