Families can splash into cool waters this summer at the Folsom Aquatic Center. The Aquatic Center, at 1200 Riley St. in Folsom, is a family oriented facility, said Chuck Harrison, Folsom recreation supervisor. ?There are three separate pools including the activity pool geared for younger children with a beach entry, play structure, tumble buckets and a giant waterslide,? Harrison said. ?The instructional pool is great for families and is three-and-a-half-feet deep and features a water basket hoop. This pool is also where most of our swim lessons are taught.? He said the Olympic pool, 50 meters, has 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards, lap swimming lanes, inner tubes, and their most popular giant inflatable obstacle courses ? The New Zealand Beast, Kiwi, and Montee. ?These giant inflatable structures are one of a kind and come all the way from New Zealand,? Harrison said. ?They add a ?wow factor? to the pool and are enjoyed by all ages from kids to adults.? This year, a special family event will take place at the Aquatic Center. On Saturday, July 21, the center will offer a free family picnic and movie night. ?The pools will re-open at 7 p.m. and families can enjoy one hour of free swimming,? Harrison said. ?At 8 p.m., the pools close and at about 8:30 p.m., we start the outdoor movie on a giant inflatable screen. This year we will play the Disney classic, ?Puss ?n Boots.?? Families may bring a picnic, lawn chairs or blankets and relax on the lawn. This event is supported by local sponsors, Mathnasium, KidsCamp, Lakeside Church, and American River Montessori. ?Our snack bar is also open during the event for those (who) do not want to bring their own food,? Harrison said. Other pool programs this summer include ?Little Dippers? for parents and children 6 years and under. This program offered from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Fridays, and allows young children and their parents a chance to play in the activity pool before the facility opens to the public at 1 p.m. The center also offers birthday party packages that include pool admission, pizza, ice cream cake, punch and a private shade area. New to the pool this year are Saturday group swim lessons and Autism Spectrum swimming lessons. Swim lessons are also offered during the morning, afternoon, and evening hours for children and adults, Harrison said. There include group lessons, semi-private lessons and private lessons. The center also offers Aquacise water aerobics and Pilates classes. Pool hours include adult lap swim from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Recreation swim is from 1 to 6 p.m. daily. After Labor Day, the pool will still offer lap swim in the 50 meter pool year round as well as water aerobics, pilates, springboard diving, scuba diving, water polo and kayaking. The daily admission fee for ages 4 to 54 is $7, ages 2 to 3 is $4, ages 55 and older is $5 and under 2 is free. Family passes are available for $149, including up to four members of the same household and is valid every day during the summer through Labor Day. Additional family members can be added for $15.
