In spite of perfect weather and ideal playing conditions at Rancho Murieta Tuesday, the Folsom Lake College men’s golf team lost ground to Santa Rosa JC in the race for the Big 8 Conference Championship. The Falcons shot a team score of 395, which was good for third place behind Santa Rosa (375) and American River (393). Falcon freshman Joel Slak played well, as he tied for second-low medalist with his 1-under-par round of 71. While the team was disappointed with the finish on Tuesday, they have clinched second place in the Big 8 and a spot in the Northern California Regional Championship on May 7 along with Santa Rosa and Delta. Santa Rosa has virtually clinched the conference title as they now lead the Falcons by 10 points. It would take a win by FLC and a last place finish by Santa Rosa in Thursday’s final Big 8 tournament to keep Santa Rosa from winning the championship. Following Slak’s 71 was Cole Zarecky, who carded a 77. Luke Ivazian shot an 80 and he was followed by Kevin Rose (81), Nick Fowler (86) and Riley Svikhart (89). The Falcons finish Big 8 Conference play Thursday at Chardonnay Golf Club in Napa, then have next week off in preparation for NorCal Regionals on May 7.
