Fifty years ago this week, the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution creating the El Dorado County Community Services District, a golden anniversary that will be celebrated this Friday with music, games and plenty of fun. And there?s more ahead. ?The CSD is entering into an exciting time,? said Sandi Kukkola, the district?s assistant general manager. ?The community will see a growth in services and facilities in the coming months and years. ?The district,? she added, ?is streamlining operations while providing new and exciting opportunities for residents.? Meanwhile, a full menu of activities and excitement are planned for Friday?s anniversary community party at the CSD park at Harvard Way and El Dorado Hills Boulevard. Festivities begin at 7 p.m. and will include a concert by the band Pop Fiction, which performs top hits from the 1970s to the present. There will be other free activities, among them rides for kids, face painters, a magician, eight inflatable bounce houses, balloon artists, birthday cake and giveaways for everyone, said Mike Cottrell, a CSD recreation supervisor who oversees the district?s special events. Also on the CSD?s 50 Days of Summer agenda are Friday Movies in the Park, featuring kids? films ?Bedtime Stories,? June 8; ?Kung-Fu Panda 2,? June 22; and ?Cool Running,? July 20. A photo contest will run throughout the summer. Submit entries for a chance to have your photo included in an upcoming district Recreation Guide. Submit photos to Cottrell via email at mcottrell@edhcsd.org by Aug. 1. To view rules, log on to www.edhcsd.org. To extend the celebrating mood, the CSD is taking parties to neighborhood parks, where there will be free food and family activities on Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The parks schedule: Murray Homestead, June 13; Lake Forest, June 20; Kalithea, June 27; Art Weisberg, July 11; Oak Knoll, July 18; and Bertelsen, July 25. ?We?re looking forward to a special summer and we hope everybody enjoys all the activities we have organized for them,? Cottrell said. Kukkola said the county planning commission approved plans to build a restroom near the north ball field at the CSD park, a bridge to connect the east ball field to the north ball field, a full-size basketball court and a picnic area. The additions to the park are expected to be designed this fall, with construction beginning as early as spring next year. The CSD?s summer Recreation Guide is available at the district offices at 1021 Harvard Way in El Dorado Hills, (916) 933-6624.
