El Dorado Hills, Folsom National advance in D54 11-year-old tournament
EL DORADO HILLS — El Dorado Hills advanced out of pool play with a 16-7 rout of Maidu in the District 54 11-year-old all-star tournament Wednesday evening at Mitchell Field.
On the same field where Chris Hansen’s team lost the District 54 9/10 championship to Woodcreek last year, the El Dorado Hills manager’s 11-year-olds scored six runs in the first two innings and never looked back.
“Our goal the first inning was to put two runs up on the board, because we hadn’t scored in the first inning yet,” Hansen said. “The boys came out and put three up, and that was the way they started the tone.”
Braydon Tester, R.J. Routon and Anthony Pallari each had two RBI for El Dorado Hills. Four other hitters each drove in a run, and eight Maidu errors helped widen the differential.
Maidu pulled to 6-4 in the bottom of the third. A passed ball scored a run, and Braeden Holliday stole home. El Dorado Hills scored 10 runs in the last three innings, six of which scored on errors.
“We had it in our own hands for this last game. We just didn’t have it (Wednesday), and we got a little down on defense,” Maidu manager Carl Josephson said. “That’s just the way it bounces sometimes.”
Five of El Dorado Hills’ 12 hits were doubles, and Maidu totaled three errors in the fourth and fifth.
“We’ll have an end-of-the-year party, but we’re going to go support our 12-year-old team,” Josephson said. “They’re 2-0 right now, so we’ll pull together as a league and have a good time. This team is good, and I expect all of these guys back next year.”
Folsom National also advanced out of its pool by beating Ponderosa 5-1 on Wednesday. El Dorado Hills and Folsom National now await the second team that will advance out of the other pool.
Woodcreek (3-0) has clinched a berth in next week’s double-elimination tournament and faces Gold Rush (0-2) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Lakeside and Folsom American, both of which are 1-1, meet at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Roseville West (1-2) remains in the running and plays Folsom American at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Roseville West has scored 18 runs, Lakeside 17 and Folsom American 11.
Lakeside meets Gold Rush at 4 p.m. Saturday.
