SHINGLE SPRINGS CA — Two community service organization are joining forces to bring food to those in need in El Dorado Hills. T. Abraham, who sits on the board of Hands 4 Hope, and Mike Sproull, founder and Executive Director of the El Dorado County Food Bank, were instrumental in forging the joint relationship. Abraham said Hands 4 Hope has the means and the volunteers to collect food donations, while the Food Bank has the resources to effectively distribute the items. “Together we can do a lot more and make a difference,” Abraham said. Sproull was quick to point out that the need for food is ever-increasing and the one who needs help could be your neighbor. “There is a hidden need,” he said. “With the economic down turn we are seeing more and more in need of food and that includes people in El Dorado Hills.” He said there is a lot of need in El Dorado Hills. The affluent community is not exempt from the socio economics. The “hidden” needy could be living in the $500,000 home, but because of financial woes, they have found themselves in need. The Food Bank provides food assistance on a daily basis in partnership with over 40 local emergency food response agency sites including battered women’s shelters, senior centers, local food pantries, under privileged youth programs, youth shelters, soup kitchens, maternity homes and more. Hands4Hope is comprises youth and adult volunteers including students from kindergarten through senior year in high school. “We want to help the homeless and the hungry and cultivate a new generation of volunteers,” Abraham said. Last year the Food Bank provided in excess of $3 million in food to the community. And the need is ever increasing, Sproull said. “Hunger knows no season or boundaries,” he said. There are two food distribution locations in El Dorado Hills. Rolling Hills Church provides food weekly. Food can also be picked up at White Rock Village. * * * IN THE KNOW Hands4Hope and the El Dorado County Food Bank Food Blitz The charities will be collecting food donations April 22 at area supermarkets including: • Safeway in Cameron Park • Raley’s in El Dorado Hills • Nugget Market in El Dorado Hills For more information on how to help visit: hands4hopeyouth.org or foodbankedc.org
