Ashley Tai, a sixth grader at Rolling Hills Middle School, competed in the Junior Olympics National Gymnastics Championships in May in Dallas, Texas and took first place on the balance beam with a score of 9.625. Tai also placed tenth on the floor exercise and her overall score of 37.350 placed her 13th out of 59 competitors in the Junior A division. Tai was the youngest athletes competing in the division. Lisa Poarch, Rick Newman and Tara Gilmore coach Tai at Technique Gymnastics in Rancho Cordova. Though training an average of 35 hours a week, Tai has earned straight A's in school.
