Water district lifts restrictions
Water will flow for El Dorado Irrigation District customers as stage-one drought conditions were lifted Monday. The district lifted the restrictions for about 100,000 customers at a special meeting last week. The restrictions had been in place since March 23 when it appeared the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation would limit draws from Folsom Lake. With recent rains, snow melt and a nearly full lake, the bureau recently announced it would not cut supplies to those dependent on the lake for water. EID customers have been paying a higher “drought rate” since April 1 and were asked to voluntary reduce water use by 15 percent. The rates will now drop back to the older, lower rates, according to a statement released by EID. Jenkinson Reservoir supplies half the water to EID and is so full, it spilled in late April. The USBR said it would supply 100 percent of EID’s water allocation from Folsom Lake, which currently stands at 97 percent of capacity.
