Delay in Cameron Park murder trialBy: Penne Usher, Telegraph Correspondent
PLACERVILLE — A Cameron Park man accused of killing his wife appeared in El Dorado County Superior Court briefly Monday. Todd Winkler, 45, was in court for what was to be a pre-preliminary hearing, however, the case was put off yet again. Winkler’s attorney, David Weiner, and prosecutor Lizette Suder agreed to meet again in court Aug. 27 to confirm they will both be prepared to proceed with a preliminary hearing Aug. 30. Among other items, both attorneys are waiting for the autopsy report. Winkler’s wife, Rachel Winkler, was found dead in her Cameron Park home Feb. 27. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and contends the fatal stabbing of his wife was self-defense after she allegedly attacked him with scissors. The couple’s three children were home at the time of the slaying and are in the custody of Rachel’s father, Don Hatfield. Winkler is scheduled to return at 8 a.m. Aug. 27 in Dept. 7 of El Dorado County Superior Court.
