After 22 years as owner and operator of the El Dorado Hills Pet Clinic, Dr. William Strohauer has sold the business to the husband-and-wife veterinarian team of Dr. Chris Garden and Dr. Lourdes Garden, who own another veterinary service in Camino. The couple, who have lived for four years near the El Dorado Hills clinic, took over that practice in September. Remaining on staff as office manager is Dawn Efimoff, who’s worked at the clinic for more than 11 years and lives in Placerville. “We want to keep the family practice mentality of the clinic,” Chris said. “We’ll probably do more procedures than Dr. Strohauer did and do a lot of preventative medicine and veterinary dentistry.” “Being a smaller practice we’ll have the luxury of getting to know our patients well,” added Lourdes. Chris noted that while at many veterinary clinics patients receive a 15-minute visit, “ours will be a half hour to 45 minutes.” The Gardens, both 40, met while attending veterinary school at the University of Liverpool in England. After graduation, Chris worked in a mixed animal practice, treating sheep and cattle in Wales. Lourdes worked near Liverpool, also in a mixed animal practice. She is a native of New Jersey and graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in animal science. He was born and raised in San Francisco and graduated from Cal Poly Pomona, also with an undergraduate degree in animal science. Chris Garden ap-proached Dr. Strohauer two years ago and said if he ever wanted to sell his practice, he should give him a call. A year-and-a-half later, Dr. Strohauer called and said he was ready to retire and sell the business. The Gardens, married nine years, have two children, Danny, 5, and Sofia, 3. They also have two rescue dogs, a shepherd mix and a beagle and Jack Russell mix. Lourdes is a runner and likes to snow and water ski, as well as camp. Chris shares the camping interest but also is into photography and basketball. The clinic is closed Saturday but the Gardens are available by phone for emergencies. * * * El Dorado Hills Pet Clinic Hours: Monday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Tuesday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Closed Saturday and Sunday.
