Community Services District offers youth, adult sports programs

The El Dorado Hills Community Services District is currently offering the following sports and/or recreation programs. Youth Sports Pee Wee T-Ball: Children ages 3-6 learn the fundamentals of baseball in this four-week camp from Sept. 30 to Oct. 21 on Thursday afternoons at the Promontory Community Park (girls softball field). This camp teaches the basic concepts of the sport by demonstrating the correct method of throwing, catching and hitting. Parents can pick from three different times beginning at 4 p.m. for 3 years olds (parent participation required for this age group) or 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. for 4-6 year olds with a fee of $60 per child. Sign-up before the deadline of Sept. 24 to receive a camp T-shirt by calling the EDHCSD at 933-6624. Pee Wee Basketball: Ranging in ages from 3- to 6-years-old, children are taught how to dribble, pass, shoot and the importance of teamwork. This camp is shortened to three weeks but times are extended during each week to equal the normal four-week session. Beginning Oct. 28 and ending Nov. 18 (no class on the Nov. 11) the camp meets at the Brooks Elementary School gym every Thursday at 5 p.m.(3-year-olds only with parent participation required), or 6:15 p.m. for children ages 4-6. Hoops are lowered for children to make their first basket. Call the CSD on 933-6624 before the Oct. 22 deadline. Coach Chuck Hammond’s Basketball Camp – Boys grades 7th–8th This multi-day camp focus is on building the fundamental skills to improve the participants existing basketball experience and knowledge. Coach Hammond was a standout player at San Francisco State University and led his team to two conference championships and an NCAA Tournament berth during his tenure. Lead instructor Terry Smith is a Northern California AAU, CYBL and JBA Basketball coach with four years experience in conducting basketball clinics throughout the nation. Creative and fun drills will teach participants how to pass, shoot, rebound, dribble, offense and defense as well as the importance of teamwork. The camp will be held at the Brooks Elementary School Gym beginning Friday evening, Nov. 19(6-9 p.m.), continuing Saturday, Nov. 20 (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.) and concluding on Sunday, Nov. 21 (8-11 a.m.). Registration fee is $125 per child with a deadline of Nov. 5. Call 933-6624 for more details. Dodgeball Growing in popularity, this fast-action sport works on hand-eye coordination, speed, agility and having fun. Children ages 7-13 are divided into teams and play multiple games throughout this camp on Friday evenings at the CSD gym (7-7:50 p.m.) for four weeks from Sept. 24 to Oct. 15. Fee of $55 includes a camp T-shirt. Call 933-6624 before the registration deadline of Sept. 17. Girls Volleyball League: Entering its second season this CSD recreational league targets girls from grades five through 10. One practice per week (Mondays) and one game per week (Tuesdays) will be played for eight weeks. Registration fee includes a team jersey and trophy for each girl. Teams are coached by volunteer parents. Call the EDHCSD desk at 933-6624 to register before the deadline of Sept. 3. Sign up fee is $130 but once maximum numbers are reached, registration will close. Grades will be combined to form teams depending on number of participants in each grade. EDHCSD Winter Youth Basketball League – Grades K – 9 Our largest and most popular winter basketball league begins practices in late November with Saturday games during the months of January and February. Games are played at the CSD and Brooks Elementary School gyms with full-court games for grades third and higher. Hoops are lowered for lower grades, but are at 10 feet for third grade and above. Fee is $130 if uniform purchased, or $15 less if child already has an approved uniform from a previous season. Price also includes a trophy for each participant. Deadline to register is Friday, Oct. 22(or when full). Grades may be combined to form teams. Call the CSD at 933-6624 early as this league fills up fast. Sports-a-Riffic Help your child improve hand-eye coordination and athleticism in this four-week multi-sport camp held on Friday evenings from 7-7:50 p.m. from Oct. 22 to Nov. 19 at the CSD Gym. Parent participation is encouraged during certain sports. Each week introduces several different sports such as miniature golf, indoor hockey, dodgeball, shuffleboard, kickball, horseshoes, ultimate Frisbee, and others on a rotating basis. Fee of $55 includes a camp T-shirt if registered before the deadline of Oct. 15. Call 933-6624. Adult Sports Adult Coed Soccer: Our 7-vs-7 league plays on Wednesday nights on the synthetic field at Promontory Community Park from Oct. 12 to Jan. 12. If enough teams register, upper and lower divisions will be formed with the top-four teams in each division advancing into a playoff round the final week of the season. Call the registration desk at 933-6624 for more details before the deadline of Oct. 1. We can also add you to our free agent list if you’re not already associated with an existing team. Adult 5x5 basketball: Teams play round-robin games on Sunday evenings (Sept. 12 to Nov. 21) at the CSD gym concluded by playoffs for the top-four teams. If enough teams register, an upper and lower division will be formed. Call the CSD at 933-6624 to register your team before the deadline of Sept. 3. Registration fee is $500 per team. If you don’t have your own team, ask to be added to our free agent list. Fall Softball Pick from four different nights to play (Tuesday through Friday) at the Promontory Community Park Softball Field. Coed plays on Tuesdays, Men’s open divisions on Wednesday and Thursdays, followed on Fridays for men’s 35+. This final 2010 season will be shortened to conclude before the winter rains arrive and will play from September to October (early November for the Friday night league). Registration fee is $375 per team with registration deadline of Sept. 10 or when full. Call the CSD (933-6624) to be added to our free agent list if you don’t have a team already.
