Fisheye Scuba has only been in Folsom for three years, but it has quickly gained a good reputation. The store is the 2010 winner of the Telegraph’s Best of the Best Contest for Best Scuba Store. The full-service scuba shop has plenty to offer its customers, including lessons and certification, gear sales and service, rentals and dive trips and expeditions, both local and exotic. As a sign of their success, they have a free dive club with 60 members. Dive trips range from local lakes and rivers to more exotic locales such as Channel Islands, San Diego, Cozumel, Mexico, and Maldives, among others. Locally owned and operated by Tom and Kate Fuquay, Fisheye Scuba puts a priority on customer service. “Our customers are our business and our customer service is number one,” said Ryan Norman, store manager. “We’re small and personal and know a majority of our clients by first name. We also have excellent instructors who love to teach.” Rami Tarazi and his wife, Shannon, love the proximity of Fisheye Scuba to their home in Gold River. They’ve been frequent customers. “The store is close to home and there are great people there,” Rami Tarazi said. “It’s a smaller store ... and they get anything I need really fast.” The Tarazis are also members of the dive club and have found that to be a fun experience. “We get together every two months and there’s always a demo on a new product or new equipment,” Tarazi said. The dive trips are purely recreational. Norman said there are a lot of photographers on their trips. Divers also discover a wide array of items in the water, especially in local lakes and rivers. “We find all kinds of things,” Norman said. “We’ve found personal items that people have lost in the river or lake, perhaps when they dumped their kayak or something. Items like fishing pools, sunglasses, bottles of booze, guns and knives; we see it all.” * * * IN THE KNOW What: Fisheye Scuba Where: 307 Iron Point Rd., Folsom Info: (916) 850-1145,
