Oak Ridge High has more than 1,000 athletes competing on 57 sports teams at the varsity through freshmen levels and many of the teams are successful.
That success doesn’t come by accident, as the school not only has talented athletes, but also quality coaches to teach, resources to provide opportunities to the athletes and top-of-the line facilities.
The annual Blue & Gold Auction is one of the two main fundraisers for the school’s sports boosters and the 13th annual event will be held from 6 to 11:30 p.m. April 20 at El Dorado Hills Mercedes-Benz in Town Center.
Last year’s event raised $70,000 for the sports programs and was a sellout. Nearly all of this year’s 400 tickets have also been sold. Event organizers are hoping to raise $80,000.
“This event is to celebrate our athletes and raise money for the sports teams at Oak Ridge,” Chairperson Betty Williams said. “We have a silent auction and a live auction, a reception and dinner and dancing at the end.”
The dinner is catered by Pheasant Wood Catering, while the live auction will again be handled by David Sobon Auctions. DJ Mike (Creative Sound Entertainment) will top off the evening by playing some good dance music.
The theme of this year’s auction is “Respect Your Sport, Respect Your School, Respect For All.”
Oak Ridge Athletic Director Steve White said the Blue & Gold Auction is important to the success of the school’s sports programs.
“Without it, the non-revenue generating sports would have trouble operating,” White said. “We appreciate the time the boosters spend to put on this spectacular event. It allows us to maintain freshman sports and have quality equipment and coaching.”
There are about 100 items available in the silent auction and about 15 live auction items. Among the items to be in the live auction include a guitar signed by Eric Clapton and B.B. King, a framed tennis racquet autographed by Serena Williams, the ultimate prom package, a shopping package, a wine rack with 30 bottles of fine wine, a San Francisco Giants premium seat package including dinner and limo service, other premium sporting event tickets, romantic one-night getaways with dinner, weekend getaways to Lake Tahoe, vacation getaways with airline tickets, VIP Service at the 2013 Oak Ridge graduation, wine tours, IMAX experience, a year’s worth of tutoring by Tutoring Rocks and Fabulous Chef Experience dinner packages.
Tickets are $50 and if it’s not already sold out, they are available at www.orsb.org.
