Arist, jeweler bridge personal, work lives in Folsom
Familiar Faces
FOLSOM, CA - The driving forces behind Rainbow Bridge Jewelers are familiar faces in town in many ways.
Jim Kelly is a painter, jeweler, artist and musician. His wife, Dorothy Cormack, sits on the Folsom Historic District Commission and a board member for the Folsom Historical Society.
Kelly designs the jewelry while Cormack handles the advertising, promotional material and flyers.
What were you doing before Rainbow Bridge Jewelers?
Cormack: Before this I was just an artist. It’s been so long. We’ve been here (at the store) 34 years.
How long have you been married?
Kelly: Hmmm ... we’re not really sure. We lived together for a while before that.
Cormack: We can’t remember. About 27 years, I’d say. We met when I came to him to have a pair of earrings made. He saw me on TV and wanted to get involved with a project I was working on called Sculpture Sacramento. That was in 1981.
What’s the most interesting thing that’s happened to you?
Kelly: Probably our ability to travel.
Cormack: Probably our trip to Morocco.
Kelly: We went to an international music festival.
Tell us about your family.
Cormack: My son is in London. He’s an architect.
Kelly: I have to adult daughters. One in Sacramento and one in San Francisco (who is) an ironman tri-athlete.
What is your favorite movie?
Cormack: That’s hard because we don’t really go out to the movies.
What is your favorite book?
Kelly: The “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” series.
Cormack: That’s the best thing I’ve read in a long time. I also like Tom Wolfe’s stuff.
What hobbies do you enjoy?
Kelly: My profession and my hobby are rolled into one.
Cormack: When you’re an artist, they are the same. Jim plays music. He’s the lead guitarist in our house band, Dr. Placebo, and he likes to paint.
Kelly: I guess if you had to say we had a hobby, it would be travel.
