ARFC Freedom '98 places impressive second at Suntan Classic

The American River FC U14 girls’ soccer team, Freedom '98, placed second at the Suntan Classic Tournament hosted by the Sac United Soccer Club at Cherry Island. The Freedom won every game to reach the finals before losing 1-0 to Cap FC United ’98. The Freedom brought consistent pressure throughout the game but was unable to score. They won their first game 4-0 against East Diablo’s Impact Xplosion. In game two, they defeated MVLA’s Cobras ’97, 3-2. A 3-1 win followed in game three against the home team, Sacramento United’s Extreme ‘97. Throughout the tournament, Freedom ‘98 displayed great possession style soccer as they continue to grow as a team. Members of the team include Paige Garvey, Sarah Kelly, Brittney Johnson, Jaycie Schenone, Shannon Fuchs, Bonnie Ford, Anna Ottley, Alyssa Balga, Payton Garvey, Olivia Teerlink, Alexa Gisin, Hannah Lewandowski, Megan Gisin, Laurel Pyle, Natalie Cowlishaw, Riley West, Kayla Galet and Kara Fukui. Beth and Ed Fuchs and Jeff Lewandowski coach the team. American River Futbol Club is the Division 1 competitive soccer program for ARYSL. The club is affiliated with both CYSA and US Club Soccer and offers an alternative to higher-priced programs in the area. ARFC services Sacramento, El Dorado, and Placer Counties.
