Aboukhadijeh finishes fifth in Run to Feed the HungryBy: Staff Report
More than 28,000 individuals participated in the 19th annual "Run to Feed the Hungry" on Thanksgiving Day in Sacramento.
It’s a great way to give back to the community and burn a few calories before feasting on the holiday turkey dinner. The event raised more than $800,000 dollars for the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, the highest amount since the event first started in 1993. The race starts near Sacramento State’s J Street entrance and winds through East Sac and midtown. Runners had the choice to compete in either a 5K or 10K. Both courses consisted of flat, fast roads that allowed for great times and personal bests.
Sacramento local and Granite Bay high school coach Kevin Poole, 29, placed first in the 10K race with a time of 30:35 (4:56 per mile). Oak Ridge High alumni and current UCLA runner Amjed Aboukhadijeh, 20, finishing fifth overall with a time of 32:31(5:13 per mile).
