The 2013 half of District 3 Rodeo begins this weekend
The California High School Rodeo Association cowboys and cowgirls of District 3 will return to the Lincoln Rodeo Grounds Jan. 12-13 to resume the challenge for point supremacy and a trip to state, and perhaps national, rodeo finals for 2012-13.
Fans are encouraged to turn out and cheer on a favorite rider or roper or just to enjoy the action. There is no admission and breakfast and lunch at the snack bar is chuck-wagon good.
The first events begin around 8 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday. The bronc riding and bull riding usually takes place around 10 and each day closes around 4 p.m. with barrel racing.
The National High School Rodeo Association was incorporated in 1961 with its main focus to keep students in school. The CHSRA, a charter member of NHSRA, has been going strong for more than 40 years.
The rodeos promote sportsmanship among its members with the cowboys and cowgirls supporting each other in spite of the competition. There is also a great deal of scholarship money to be won and it increases if participants qualify for state; it increases even more for those who make it to nationals.
Rodeo isn’t easy and was never meant to be but safety is No. 1 and all events are carefully staged and monitored. Hard work leads to success and that’s the goal many of District 3’s members have achieved.
